QUESTION
Where will you go when you commit suicide?
ANSWER
The Bible teaches that our eternal destination is determined by our relationship with Jesus Christ, not by the final act of our life. Salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9). Scripture never teaches that suicide is an unforgivable sin. The only unforgivable sin mentioned in the Bible is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31).
Suicide is a tragic decision, but it is not beyond the reach of God’s mercy for those who truly belong to Christ. At the same time, the Bible is clear that life is sacred. God gives life, and only He has the authority to take it (Job 1:21). Suicide is never God’s will, and it brings deep pain to families and communities. But God understands human weakness. The Bible shows many people who reached deep despair—Elijah, Jonah, David, and Job—but God did not condemn them. Instead, He comforted, restored, and strengthened them.
Believers who experience overwhelming fear, depression, or spiritual attack may reach a point of darkness they never intended to face. Yet Scripture promises that nothing can separate a child of God from His love—not death, not life, not anything else in all creation (Romans 8:38–39). If someone is truly saved, their salvation rests in Christ’s finished work, not in their final moment. However, suicide is never the solution. For those who feel overwhelmed, the Bible calls us to reach out—to God and to others. We are not meant to carry burdens alone.
Prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and professional help can be powerful tools for healing. Darkness is not permanent; light always breaks through for those who turn to God. Jesus offers hope, healing, and deliverance. He calls the weary and heavy‑laden to come to Him for rest (Matthew 11:28). God is near to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
When the enemy whispers lies of hopelessness, God speaks truth: “I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). The safest and wisest choice is always to seek help, cling to God’s promises, and know that He can bring life, peace, and restoration and deliverance in any situation. No situation, no matter how dark it may seem, is too big for God, He is far bigger than our human understanding can fathom.
If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts, depression, addiction, or feel overwhelmed by life, please know this: you are not alone, and your life matters. What you are feeling does not define who you are, and it does not mean there is no hope. Even in the darkest moments, help and support are available.
If you are on drugs, antidepressants, or feel emotionally numb or exhausted, it is especially important not to face this journey by yourself. Family members, friends, and loved ones are encouraged to stand alongside those who are struggling, to listen with compassion, and to offer support without judgment.
Prayer, faith-based guidance, and a caring voice can make a powerful difference. If you or someone you love is facing serious emotional or suicidal distress, please reach out for help immediately.
